WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Collaborates with and provides professional development to Wake County Public Schools Systems (WCPSS) staff and parents of students with disabilities. Fosters positive relationship building between parents, schools, and community agencies to better serve students with disabilities. With guidance, supports parents and guardians of students with disabilities in understanding special education services and processes.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of special education procedures, including how to write and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP);
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in an online student information system (for example ECATs);
  • Ability to design and deliver professional development that is clear, informative and engaging;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education (adapted or general curriculum);
  • Five years of teaching experience in Special Education or related field;
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible to for North Carolina Professional Educator's license in special education or directly related area;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a good driving record according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable knowledge and fluency of the Spanish language.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as the initial point of contact to direct parents to the appropriate resources and personnel.
  2. Fosters positive relationship building between parents, schools, and community agencies to better serve students with disabilities.
  3. Facilitates parental understanding of the general special education curriculum and the appropriate continuum of services.
  4. Supports the design and development of parent trainings and professional development for WCPSS staff.
  5. Communicates and coordinates with Special Education Services team members to maintain interdepartmental collaboration of available resources.
  6. Assists families relocating to WCPSS with understanding the requirements of the IEP out-of-state transfer process.
  7. Supports data collection process for Family and Community Connections.
  8. Attends scheduled Special Education Services meetings and events; represents Special Education Services at community events, as needed.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automobile equipment.
