Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a creative, motivated, and versatile Video Editor to join our dynamic team. The Video Editor will contribute their expertise in collaboration, editing, and design to support digital content creation for both in-house and client-driven projects.

We are looking for candidates with proven experience, a creative mindset, and the technical skills to craft polished video content such as news-style video packages, testimonials, advertisements, and public service announcements (PSAs). This role requires expertise in journalism, visual storytelling, video content creation, audio mixing, and client communication. The ideal candidate will thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment, collaborating to produce impactful digital video content. While experience in photo and video capture is beneficial, it is not required. This role is essential to building audiences, promoting brands, and editing event-style content and coverage.

Β

This full-time position is based in the Northern Virginia area, with potential travel required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the full-time editor for video content, including turning around news-style content within 48 hours post-event, as well as creating story-driven, testimonial, and marketing videos.
  • Proactively implement and manage efficient video editing workflows, including media management, version control, and asset organization for both in-house and client projects.
  • Edit multi-segment news packages summarizing key events and highlights over the course of a month.
  • Skillfully edit interviews, ensuring a smooth and coherent dialogue despite any delivery mistakes.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for video storytelling across various platforms, including websites, newsletters, social media, conferences, and in-person events.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose existing content into shorter clips or new formats for different platforms, maximizing the value of footage across various channels (e.g., turning long-form interviews into snackable social media content).
  • Assist in shooting original and branded content in various styles, both in the field and studio, including event coverage, documentary pieces, commercial-style shoots, and both short and long-form videos.
  • Create sizzle reels, pitch reels, case studies, marketing pieces, and day-to-day social videos for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an organized library of video assets (e.g., B-roll footage, stock footage, licensed music) that can be quickly accessed for future projects.
  • Produce innovative digital video programming and marketing content across client-owned channels (Website, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
  • Confidently present video drafts to clients, incorporating feedback in a professional and timely manner while managing client expectations throughout the revision process.
  • Be available to travel within the U.S. to capture photo and video content at various locations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressively complex, relevant video/content editing experience in an agency, freelance, or production house environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the entire video production process, with a focus on post-production/editing.
  • Bachelor's degree in film, video, photography, or a related field, or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Submission of a reel or example links is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with executive-level clients.
  • Up-to-date with the latest developments in digital storytelling, technologies, and content delivery.
  • Proficiency in audio mixing, lighting, and color correction/editing using software such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Media Encoder, DaVinci Resolve, and Audition.
  • Bonus: Technical knowledge and experience in on-location video/photo shooting, studio production, and multi-day event coverage.
  • Proficiency in creating motion graphics and simple animations to enhance video content, particularly for marketing, social media, or explainer videos using tools like After Effects or similar software.
  • Expertise in interpreting client feedback and solving creative challenges to achieve the best possible outcome.
  • Strong passion and knowledge for visual storytelling.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and utilize resources effectively.
  • Strong ability to meet tight deadlines, especially for quick-turnaround projects or content with live event coverage, maintaining quality under pressure.
  • Self-driven with a strong sense of initiative.
  • Expertise in editing multi-camera shoots, especially for events, interviews, or live coverage, allowing seamless switching between different camera angles and ensuring fluid transitions.
  • Knowledge of branding principles and the ability to maintain consistent visual language and messaging across video projects to align with brand guidelines and client objectives.
  • Experience with Section 508c compliance standards and relevant laws within the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Experience adapting video content to multiple platforms with different formats and aspect ratios (e.g., vertical video for Instagram Stories, square videos for Facebook, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
