The general salary range for this position is $77,000 - 92,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training, and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant, Banking and Insurance for the Accounting Department. In this position you will be responsible for managing Banking activities and the administration of global bank accounts, including but not limited to reconciliation of bank transactions to insure accurate financial records as well as managing roles and access to banking information. Also responsible for Insurance functions of the HSUS and affiliates, including the insurance renewal process, claims management, and compliance with insurance requirements. Act as HSUS 401K Plan Administrator to include managing the annual 401K audit and tax return process.
You will be responsible for:
Managing the banking and merchant account relationships of the organization:
• Manages bank account access and banking security roles for organization;
• Manages signature authority listing for organization;
• Manages monthly standing transfer orders among HSUS and Affiliate accounts;
• Assist the Senior Manager, Treasury & Investments in reviewing monthly reconciliations prepared by Treasury Accountant;
• Manage the bank’s KYC (Know Your Customer) process.
Reconciliations:
• Assists in the monthly bank reconciliation process;
• Responsible for benefit liability account reconciliations;
For being the 401K account administrator for the organization:
• Manages 401K employer match process for bi-weekly payroll and annual match funding per the plan documents;
• Manages the annual 401K audit and 5500 process;
Acting as the main point of contact for the annual HSUS Insurance renewal process, which includes gathering data, coordinating the meetings, and paperwork processes around the insurance renewal process.
Preparing journal entries:
• Records expenses for the HSUS’ health, dental, prescription plans and HAS;
• Records monthly bank transfer journal entries;
• Downloads, reconciles, and records the monthly FSA/DCA journal entry;
• Downloads, reconciles, and records the monthly COBRA journal entry;
Managing Reporting of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR)
Performing other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience required;
• A minimum of four (4) years accounting experience with an emphasis on compliance, reporting and reconciliations along with some level of management experience required.
• CPA a plus;
• Non-Profit experience a plus;
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the computerized accounting software;
• Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality of all payroll related information;
• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and be flexible regarding workload and assignments;
• Ability to exercise sound judgment;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
• Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
• Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
