About the Work

As an EAL Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality language instruction to students, following the school's lesson plans and benchmarks. Your role will involve engaging with students, providing cultural support, assessing language proficiency, and maintaining accurate records of attendance and student results.

Key Responsibilities:

1.   Classroom Instruction: Teach English language skills to students in accordance with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) benchmarks, following the school's lesson plans and curriculum guidelines.

2.   Lesson Planning: Interpret and apply the Canadian Language Benchmarks to create engaging and effective lesson plans, incorporating a variety of teaching methodologies and resources to cater to diverse learning styles.

3.   Online Delivery: Plan and deliver online lessons, utilizing appropriate virtual teaching tools and platforms to facilitate effective language learning in an online environment.

4.   Online and In-Person Execution: Execute teaching activities, whether in-person or online, including planning lessons, creating assessments and activities, grading assignments, and carrying out associated administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and reports.

5.   Assessments and Evaluations: Develop and administer assessments and evaluations to measure students' language proficiency, track their progress, and provide feedback for their continuous improvement.

6.   Attendance and Records: Maintain accurate attendance records, keeping track of student attendance and inputting relevant data into the school's records management system.

7.   Cultural Support: Provide cultural support to students, fostering cross-cultural understanding and promoting an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

8.   Communication: Respond to student inquiries and administrative inquiries promptly and professionally, maintaining open and effective communication channels with students and ACLA administration.

9.   Professional Development: Continuously develop professionally, staying updated with current teaching methodologies, attending professional development workshops or conferences, and implementing new strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness.



Specific Work Capabilities:

1.     Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), or a related field. A TESL Canada certification or equivalent is preferred.

2.     Previous experience in teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) to adults is highly desirable.

3.     Familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and experience in aligning lesson plans and assessments to the CLB benchmarks.

4.     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage and motivate students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

5.     Strong lesson planning and instructional design skills, with the ability to create engaging and student-centered lessons.

6.     Proficiency in utilizing online teaching platforms and digital tools for virtual instruction.

7.     Knowledge of assessment strategies and techniques for evaluating language proficiency.

8.     Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and administrative tasks.

9.     Flexibility and adaptability to different teaching environments and student needs.

10.  Cultural sensitivity and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

11.  Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
