POSITION PURPOSE:

Supports the development and deployment of math instructional support for students with disabilities and general education students impacted by Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CEIS) that aligns with the mission, vision and core beliefs of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Strategic Plan. Supports, models, and facilitates math instructional evidence-based practices through collaboration with school and district personnel, creating and developing professional learning/development targeted to improve math instructional practices. Evaluates materials and resources that enhance the delivery of effective math instruction. Supports implementation of core and targeted math assessment tools and assists in data collection and analysis in order to support actionable decisions to improve math instructional support.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal policies and procedures applicable to special education and related services;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Wake County Board of Education policies, procedures, and standards regarding education;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Extended Content Standards in the area of math;
  • Considerable knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and the implementation of Standard Treatment Protocol (STP);
  • Considerable knowledge of WCPSS benchmark assessments aligned to grades K-12;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze student data to generate effective courses of action;
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse staff across multiple grade levels;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to set goals, action steps and timelines to assist teams in achieving positive outcomes for students;
  • Ability to identify problems/issues and to work with teams and individuals to develop solutions;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, General Education, or directly related field from a regionally accredited university;
  • Five years of successful K-12 teaching experience;
  • Experience in assessing student needs; planning, developing, and implementing targeted interventions; evaluating targeted interventions and their effectiveness; and in designing and conducting professional staff development.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible to hold North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Special Education and/or General Education;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in general and/or special education, school administration, or related field;
  • Leadership experience at a school or central services level.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in the development, deployment, and fidelity of implementation of Special Education Services math initiatives.
  2. Assists in the development, deployment, and fidelity of implementation of the district’s core math instructional assessments and curriculum.
  3. Assist with maintaining various social media, outreach, and instructional resources for SES math.
  4. Supports district level goals related to reduction of disproportionality in the identification for special education and related services.
  5. Supports schools in the implementation of MTSS and STP as part of the requirements for determining the need for interventions and/or special education and related services in the area of Math.
  6. Collaborates with SES and Academic Advancement Math Staff in the development and deployment of professional learning/development activities for school administrators and general/special education teachers.
  7. Functions within state and federal guidelines for MTSS and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990 (IDEA).
  8. Stays current on trends, research, and best practices in math instruction by attending professional development events, perform independent research, utilizing social media and communicating with relevant professionals within and outside the school district.
  9. Performs other duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment frequently within Wake County.
