WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Coordinates contact with families who are transitioning from Part C services to Part B.  Serves as a required team member for IEP meetings, typically in the role of Local Education Agency (LEA) representative.  Provides introductory information regarding the special education process to the families.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance regulations, specifically for preschool students;
  • Considerable knowledge of preschool assessment/evaluation and the development of young children;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Knowledge of Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS);
  • Demonstrates leadership and team building skills;
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and customer service skills;
  • Ability to organize information from multiple sources;
  • Ability to handle confidential information;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff and parents/guardians, including working through potential conflicts.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education or closely related field;
  • 2 years of successful pre-kindergarten or early intervention teaching experience;
  • Experience with the referral to placement process in determining eligibility for special education;
  • Experience with varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible for North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in area of Birth-Kindergarten;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies or related service field.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates communication with families transitioning from Part C to Part B.
  2. Serves as a required IEP team member, most often as LEA representative, in meetings for children transitioning from Part C and other children going through the referral process.
  3. Ensures procedural guidelines are followed and that parents are informed of their rights.
  4. Informs multidisciplinary team of new referrals and present pertinent referral information.
  5. Maintains communications with parents during the transition/referral process, securing interpreters, as needed, to conduct phone calls and meetings.
  6. Maintain caseload information (files, ECATS, OASIS log) and provides data upon request, striving to meet compliance as stated in Federal Indicators.
  7. Coordinates and schedules referrals, ensuring all details for meetings (paperwork and needed team members) are in order.
  8. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
