We are currently looking for an Associate Editor to join our team at Lab Manager to help contribute to editorial content production. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, along with a healthy dose of self-motivation and the ability to set priorities within a fast-paced environment. Ideally, the candidate has a background in laboratory science writing, which is our company’s main coverage area.




Lab Manager focuses on all aspects of running a lab, including health and safety standards, budgeting, hiring and retention, managing people, designing and furnishing a lab, and choosing the right technologies.




The candidate will also perform some duties for sibling brand Lab Design News.




The candidate’s responsibilities:


·       Interview sources and write news and feature articles for online and print formats.


·       Assist managing editors in creating and editing content for various topics, including contributed articles from industry sources and freelance pieces.


·       Assemble all e-newsletters for the brands, including determining what content goes into our newsletters.


·       Expected split of duties is 50% writing, 25% editing, and 25% e-newsletters.


·       Become adept with our content management system, including posting articles, keeping other content updated, and troubleshooting issues.


·       Potentially recruit speakers for digital and in-person events under the direction of managing editors.


·       Carry out in-house SEO best practices as directed.


·       Opportunity to travel once or twice a year to help staff in-person events put on by our company.




The candidate is required to:


·       Hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism, science communication, or other similar area.


·       Have at least three years of experience in scientific journalism or writing, along with familiarity with lab science.


·       Be highly organized, able to meet strict deadlines, and able to multitask.


·       Possess strong line editing and copyediting skills.


·       Be familiar with Microsoft and Google suites of office products.


·       Be familiar with using ChatGPT and other AI tools for content production.


·       Have knowledge of developing SEO-optimized content.


·       Work preferably on US/Canadian East Coast time.


·       Have experience using a content management system.
