We are currently looking for an Assistant Editor to join our team at Separation Science to help contribute to editorial content production. This position requires strong communication, organizational, and data analysis skills, along with self-motivation and the ability to set priorities within a fast-paced environment. Ideally, the candidate has a background in writing about analytical techniques, methods, and applications, which are our brand’s main coverage areas.

 

Separation Science provides information on all aspects of separation science as well as other analytical methods for a range of industries, including pharma, biopharma, environmental, food, and energy. Focus areas include liquid and gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, hyphenated techniques, spectroscopy, sample preparation, and data acquisition and analysis.


The candidate will also perform some duties for sibling brands Chromatography Forum and Analytical Training Solutions.

  

The candidate’s responsibilities:

  • Identify topics, interview sources, and write articles for digital formats.
  • Convey complex technical ideas using effective, clear, and creative storytelling.
  • Follow Separation Science editorial style guidelines and deliver high-quality content in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Associate Editorial Director in planning, creating, and editing content for various topics, including contributed articles from industry sources and freelance pieces.
  • Help plan, execute, and review new content initiatives, with an emphasis on effectively leveraging AI.
  • Assist the Associate Editorial Director in reviewing and editing creative services content.
  • Guide design team in producing scientifically accurate content (e.g., illustrations and infographics).
  • Plan and assemble e-newsletters for the brands.
  • Plan and help create social media content.
  • Become adept with our content creation and management systems, including posting articles, keeping other content updated, and troubleshooting issues. 
  • Assist with speaker recruitment for digital events under the direction of managing editors.
  • Carry out in-house SEO best practices as directed.

 

The candidate is required to:

  • Relevant degree with 2 years of professional experience involving hands-on expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry.
  • Have at least 2 years of experience in scientific journalism or writing.
  • Be highly organized, able to meet strict deadlines, and able to prioritize and multitask.
  • Team player with a collaborative mentality.
  • Possess strong line editing and copyediting skills.
  • Have experience using a content management system.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft and Google suites of office products.
  • Be familiar with using ChatGPT and other AI tools for content production.
  • Have knowledge of developing SEO-optimized content.
  • Work preferably on US/Canadian East Coast time.
  • Have experience communicating and working with a remote team.


The compensation range for this position is $45,000 to $65,000 CAD
