About the Opportunity
This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]
This position is responsible for maintaining the company’s books and records in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Uniform System of Accounts. The positions are within the Regulatory Accounting & Reporting department which is a central department for all FERC reporting and accounting.
This position will report to the Manager, Distribution & Commodity Accounting
Responsibilities include:
- Complete all necessary accounting and reporting activities related to fuel inventory, which requires maintaining a broad understanding of FERC Uniform System of Accounts and GAAP and a detailed understanding of inventory accounting
- Process fuel invoices and inventory receipts in Aligne and enter No PO invoices into SAP, strategically monitoring the recognition of corresponding fuel purchases and usages on inventory balances and fuel cost management. Monitor for timely payments and engage AP for expedition when necessary.
- Maintain professional skepticism when reviewing fuel invoices and inventory receipts, applying judgement to identify any discrepancies or errors and ensure pricing is appropriately calculated for each commodity. This process may require liaising with third parties or internal departments to resolve issues effectively.
- Participate in weekly Logistic update meetings to ensure accurate application of transportation charges and have awareness of other dynamic changes impacting barges and deliveries.
- Enter all quality data on a timely basis for respective vendors. Review quality reports for accuracy and completeness and follow-up with plant regarding variances and completeness as needed.
- Record monthly fuel-related journal vouchers in SAP, analyzing and understanding the underlying transactions to ensure accurate and thorough financial documentation.
- Prepare monthly reconciliation of fuel-related general ledger accounts, research and resolve reconciling items, thereby ensuring accuracy and completeness in BlackLine
- Research and respond to vendor and plant inquiries and discrepancies in a timely manner
- Prepared Mid-month and month-end confirmation reporting for vendor and verify accuracy of data prior to close, identify and correct all discrepancies
- Perform ad-hoc reporting and projects as needed, including support of rate cases
- Assist in tests for system development of the Aligne accounting system
- Performing and maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley controls and promoting an environment of compliance
- Develop and maintain relationships with operations personnel.
- Learning and exercising sound decision making and developing alternatives and recommendations to improve work processes.
- Assist in preparation of EIA 923 Government Reporting and FERC Form 580
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required.
- Minimum 0-4 years relevant work experience. Relevant work experience will include financial acumen, understanding of SAP and FERC uniform system of accounts.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within work group.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Desire to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy to deliver quality results within established deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate FE Values and Behaviors.
- Experience and proficiency with SAP and FERC uniform system of accounts preferred.
