About The Opportunity



At WhereTo, we’re building a dedicated data team to centralize and analyze data, generating insights that drive product strategy and business decisions. As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a pivotal role in applying advanced analytical techniques and machine learning models to uncover trends and opportunities that inform strategic priorities across the company. In addition, you’ll contribute to the design and ownership of our overall data strategy, ensuring data is used to its fullest potential to drive key decisions and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities


Advanced Analytics & Modeling:




  • Develop and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and other advanced analytics to identify trends, predict outcomes, and uncover business opportunities.


Data Strategy Leadership:



  • Play a key role in designing, owning, and implementing our data strategy as part of the data team, ensuring that data is effectively leveraged across the company to inform prioritization and strategic initiatives.


Data Exploration & Analysis:



  • Analyze large datasets from various sources, uncover patterns, and deliver actionable insights that inform product decisions and business strategies.


Collaborative Insight Generation:



  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data Analysts to translate complex data findings into strategic recommendations that help prioritize product development and operational improvements.


Proactive Insight Creation:



  • Proactively develop insights and models to forecast trends, improve operational efficiency, and influence strategic direction.


Data Visualization & Communication:



  • Communicate findings through clear visualizations, reports, and presentations tailored to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.



Experience & Qualifications


Advanced Analytics Expertise:



  • 3+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on applying machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis to real-world problems.


A/B Testing & Experimentation:



  • Proven experience designing and conducting A/B testing and experiments to optimize product features and validate business decisions.


Technical Skills:



  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python (required) and Node.js (preferred) for data manipulation, analysis, and model development.

  • Experience with machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization.

  • Proficiency in working with neural networks and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) to develop and deploy advanced machine learning models.

  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data to inform analytical models and business insights.


Data Processing & Infrastructure Knowledge:



  • Experience with data processing tools (e.g., Apache Spark) and working in large-scale data environments (e.g., data lakes, warehouses).


Problem-Solving Skills:



  • Proven ability to identify business challenges and apply data-driven solutions to address them.


Communication & Collaboration:



  • Ability to translate complex data analysis into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.


Preferred Qualifications:


Industry Experience:



  • Experience in the travel or technology sector, applying data science to product or operational improvements.

  • Familiarity with travel industry data (e.g., booking data, customer profiles, location data) is a plus.


Technologies:



  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of $125,000. Base salary is dependent on relevant factors, including experience, geographic location, and job requirements.
