General Summary:

As a Staff Accountant you play a key role in accelerating organizational success by being responsible for daily accounting activities, ensuring proper accounting and recording of company transactions are performed in an accurate and timely manner. Supports all aspects of general ledger accounting including analysis and reconciliations of both balance sheet and income statement accounts. Develops and maintains the policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and proper system of internal controls.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs all tasks associated with the general ledger; including but not limited to, entering monthly journal entries, executing monthly closing of general ledger, inventory reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting and reconciling general ledger related accounts.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and analyze budget variances
  • Develop and maintain asset recordkeeping in accordance with accounting rules and regulations.
  • Own all tax-related activities involving sales/use taxes, property taxes, and excise taxes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reconcile customer billing from billing software to revenues in accounting software
  • Works directly with Sales Department and Operations Department on new, modified, and discontinued services.
  • Produces all necessary NECA, USF and KUSF reports, certifications and filings necessary to maximize company participation in those programs on a timely and unprompted basis.
  • Works closely with the company’s CPA firm and consulting firms on necessary projections, certifications, NECA pool reporting, etc
  • Assist with proper recording and interpretation of intercompany accounting activities.
  • Compile and prepare reports/schedules related to internal and external audits as required.
  • Assist in development of internal financial policies and internal controls.
  • Assist in the preparation of all budgets and forecasts, including related reports and special analysis. 
  • Interface with other accounting team members for combined reporting and general ledger maintenance activities.
  • Perform other ad-hoc projects and reporting as assigned by management.





Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:                                                      

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of part 32 accounting rules
  • Must have exceptional accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of telecommunications technology, products, and services is a must
  • Knowledge of sales/use tax laws
  • Knowledge of state and federal financial reporting laws and regulations
  • Skill in using and maintaining accounting, billing, and customer software, preferably Innovative Systems software
  • Must be able to juggle multiple projects and recurring tasks while meeting all deadlines
  • Must have exceptional skills in Microsoft Office software
  • Must have spreadsheet reporting skills
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to speak effectively to individuals and groups of people
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to make sound decisions using information at hand
  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve


Education and Experience:

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience, including month-end/year-end closing experience
  • Minimum 3 years "Part 32 accounting rules" experience
