We are now seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to add to our team!

Reports to: Tax Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Connect with clients to obtain the information required to file tax returns (personal, corporate, trust, partnership, GST/HST, etc.) and tax election forms.
  • Organize the information received for the tax preparers and follow-up with clients to obtain additional information.
  • Review the tax returns so that all appropriate credits, adjustments, and deductions are applied to keep clients' taxes to a minimum.
  • Utilize existing templates, processes, and standard operating procedures to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Maintain knowledge of tax code changes, and of accounting procedures and theory to properly evaluate financial information.
  • Attend trainings to keep up to date with latest changes to the income tax act.
  • Research and explain simple to moderately complex tax issues and prepare memoranda.
  • Identify out-of-scope tax opportunities that may help or improve the clients’ situations and refer these opportunities to the manager.
  • Address any issues brought forth by the client to ensure client satisfaction in collaboration with the Tax Manager.
  • Participate in special engagements.
  • Support the Tax Manager in addressing clients’ CRA review and audit requests.
  • Prepare the Compilation Engagement Reports (CER) and appropriate checklists.

Education & Certifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting
  • CPA Designation or have passed the CFE Exam 

Experience

  • 3-5 years of tax accounting experience
  • Experience with cloud software (Xero and/or QBO)
  • Experience with professional tax software (TaxCycle or TaxPrep)
  • Experience in US Tax (Strong asset)
  • Experience being main point of contact with clients (required)

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal background check, education/employment verification
  • Ability to work overtime and/or shift work, as needed
  • Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
