Salary Range: Please note that the typical Hiring Range is $56,000 - $65,000 annualized. Job offers within the range are based on relevant job qualifications and pay equity. 



The Copywriter and Brand Specialist contributes to the calling of Medical Teams International by advising copy direction, and writing and editing effective copy that raises funds and awareness for Medical Teams across a variety of channels including online, social, video, and print. This role contributes to ensuring integration of a consistent brand voice across various pieces of content and collaborates with internal stakeholders to elevate the marketing, branding, and communications content produced.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


Concepting and Collaboration: 



  • Execute blog strategy, ensuring it meets the overall content strategy and contributes to search engine optimization (SEO) outcomes for the website. 

  • Contribute to the editorial calendar and content strategy to ensure timely publication, identify gaps in content, and recommend new campaigns and content focuses. 

  • Contribute to creative concepting and brainstorming to bring innovative and effective communication strategies to life. 

  • Ensure messaging and copy meet project objectives and direction as detailed in the creative brief. 


Copywriting: 



  • Create clear and engaging copy that grows audience affinity toward the organization, delights donors, and compels people to deepen engagement.  

  • Analyze copy to ensure writing is outcome-driven, i.e. direct response writing generates responses and giving, brand writing increases brand perception. 

  • Lead in creation of copy for a wide range of channels, including blog posts, website, direct response appeals, brand collateral, and social media.  

  • Interpret and shape great stories, transform detailed, complex information into compelling content that engages a broad audience. 


Editing: 



  • Oversee execution of fact-checking and proofreading of copy to ensure our communications meet or exceed Medical Teams’ high bar for writing quality.  

  • Conduct reviews of wide-ranging pieces of copy with solid attention to detail and thorough knowledge of fundraising best practices, grammar and style, and brand voice.  

  • Maintain proficient knowledge of Medical Teams’ history and programs. 


Brand Influence and Representation: 



  • Act as a Medical Teams brand ambassador, writing and interpreting the brand in various and appropriate voices, and ensuring all communications are on brand.  

  • Analyze copy to ensure content highlights the dignity and resilience of the people and communities we serve. 

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Development stakeholders to plan and produce content for marketing campaigns that tells brand story and supports content strategy. 

  • Advise Marketing and Development on the evolution and refinement of brand tone and voice with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion across all marketing content.  

  • Analyze Medical Teams brand against peer organizations to evaluate and recommend competitive opportunities for areas of brand growth. 


Other Duties: 



  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations. 

  • Attend and collect stories of impact and images at U.S.-based clinics. 

  • Utilize volunteers when appropriate. 

  • Additional duties as assigned. 


Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS 


Required: 




  • BA or BS in English, creative writing, marketing, or advertising, or equivalent experience in a related field substituted on a year-for-year basis. 




EXPERIENCE 


Required: 


 



  • Minimum 3 years’ experience writing for different audiences with a strong portfolio showing quality and a range of work across a variety of content channels 

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and working through a creative process 

  • Proven experience writing successful fundraising appeals and SEO-driven content 


Preferred: 




  • Minimum 2 years’ experience writing fundraising copy  




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 


Knowledge:  


 



  • Knowledge of SEO, fundraising best practices, and storytelling. 

  • Familiarity with best practices in fundraising writing principles. 

  • Knowledge of direct response, website, social, and blog platforms 

  • Knowledge of AP Style

  • Superior storytelling and written communications skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence 

  • Creative problem solver who can navigate complexity and technical language to get to the heart of an issue and tell accessible human stories 

  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all communications deliverables

  • Moderately skilled with Office 365 suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Teams etc.  

  • Moderately skilled with content management systems, digital asset management systems, and social media platforms
